“(...) Sometimes, I get obsessed ... with this insignificant thing called "self ". Even so, I am obliged to preserve it. Am I wrong to feel this way? Surely you would do the same, in my place? Perhaps we are all cursed ... From the moment we were born ... ”
Lucatiel of Mirrah - Dark Souls 2
Hollow is the newest single from the duo Wolf Among Us, released by the Abraxas label and illustrated by Fagner Villani. The single is continuation of the new work "Lords of Cinder", and ironically is the opening chapter of the plot, chronologically preceding the recently released singles "Burn them All" and "The Lovers". The song converges the end with the beginning, bringing from discomfort to the need for change. As in the Tarot "The Tower", Hollow shows disillusionment over what we thought was absolute. In addition to intrapersonal reflections, there are direct criticisms of modern society, in its search for stereotypes and unreal archetypes, and also for authoritarian religious models, imposing moral conducts for a supposed “salvation”.
The band gives more depth to the concepts of music saying: “Hollow is about death. It is about how we fulled ourselves with empty things to find some purpose, even so we knows it doesn't exist. It's about giving up, about surrendering to defeat, admitting failure. It's about seeing your "home" get ruined ... it's about the end. But it's also about life. It is about how we are reborn from our disappointments and how we seek a new meaning. It is about resisting, fighting and finding meaning. It's about raising the bricks ... It's about the beginning. Life is doomed to death, but this doesn't prevent us from surviving and trying to find meaning. Even if there isn't a meaning, we are filled with hope ... and perhaps this is our curse. ”
Hollow was recorded at the Deaf Haus studio, in Sorocaba, by the sound engineer João Antunes, who also co-produced the work alongside Robin Ortiz.
lyrics
Hollow
everything seems so stupid
But I'm still here.
There is no guarantee
But we hurt ourselves everyday
(Everything is so Hollow…)
(Everything is in vain…)
Look at yourself
you broke the mirror when you saw the truth
Treasures and crowns wouldn't mean a thing if you only even had a soul.
Here is the kingdom of hollow
all my efforts were in vain
So that was the reward
for paying with our blame
We pay with our blame
(Dear brother rise if you would… For that is our curse)
Now you will confess…
You never said the truth,
So thats why i I’ve never believed in you
You’re so hollow
You never have enough
Maybe someday you could be like us
Maybe not so perfect, maybe not so good,
but you wouldn't be a lie
and that’s will be…
a new you!
Here is the kingdom of hollow
all my efforts were in vain
So that was the reward
for paying with our blame
So that was the reward
for paying with our blame
we playing with our blame
everything is hollow
everything was in vain

Quite easily one of the best things 2021 has given us yet. This is one of those albums I toss around with the pals and make them listen to it. Gives me the early 90s vibes. Accessible, yet still blatantly snarly enough to make the grade with the grimier stoner rock brethren. If you don't give this a try, you might be stonophobic. Nerve Salad
